Time - Project Aims.
Take a shole bunch of legacy disk drives, of all different sizes and what have you got? A pile of disks, doing nothing. The reason is, once you run out of space, you have to buy a new - larger - disk to house your current data plus any future files. This renders your older smaller disk next to useless.
LVM could help (buy combining all oyur drives into one big drive), but they are difficult to manage and if just one of your 'old' drives suffers failure then you loss everything!
So maybe a RAID solution to protect your data. The problem with RAID is they are extreamly difficult to grow in size, difficult to manage and very innefficient when using drives of various sizes.
mosFS is a software solution that is designed to silently manage all your leggacy drives, provide data protection and yet be flexable enough to be used even with several of your drives unavailable (external USB or online storage, turned off) - you don't want to have all your drives powered at all times.
One of your drives fails? Just throw it in the bin and tell mosFS not to expect it back. It will shuffel everything around (silently) to make best use of the drives still available.
Bought a new drive? Just plug it in and tell mosFS to make use of it. You existing data will be shuffeled around to make best use of it with the current drives.
